Male Loneliness Crisis or the Natural Consequences of Patriarchal Narcissism?
Refuting the podcast bro perspective: It's not a loneliness epidemic, it's a patriarchal entitlement crisis
Have you seen that Scott Galloway clip (from Diary of a CEO podcast) about the “male loneliness epidemic” making the rounds? Galloway is very, very concerned that we’re evolving a new species of asexual antisocial men because these guys can’t get on Tinder and easily have a woman delivered to their door. Apparently, that’s why America is turning to fascism.
Which - okay, he’s not 100% wrong that the men complaining about having to exert effort and actually be likeable to attract women are the same men crying Daddy Trump unironically. But the implication that it’s somehow women’s responsibility to sacrifice wellbeing to settle for civilizing and mothering fundamentally anti-cooperative and entitled men is INSANE.
There isn’t a male loneliness epidemic - there is a male entitlement crisis. Too many men are functioning under the patriarchal delusion of their own innate superiority to all women, while simultaneously begging to be subsidized by a woman. Make it make sense!
Oh, actually - don’t worry about that. I already broke it all down in my newest video essay! We’re talking about the specific expectations gap that Galloway blows through instead of exploring to clearly demonstrate why the culture of male narcissism has created such a devastating entitlement crisis for men - and why it’s not women’s problem to fix.
We can’t do that inner work for them, but I’ll break down their entitlements with patience and humor so they can maybe get a clue. Feel free to share this with any patriarchal person you wish to refute, but don’t want to waste the energy on.
Drop a line to let me know your thoughts - am I being too harsh on these poor lil fellas? Is Scott Galloway correct that women should pretend to need to subsidize the lives of men to help stop fascism? (Okay, he didn’t explicitly say that - but it’s the logical extension of his logic here).
